Are there concessions for homes and first home buyers in TAS?

Tasmania's first home buyer duty relief for established homes isn't available for transfers settling after 30 June 2026, and the off-the-plan apartment concession ended for agreements signed after that date. Pensioners downsizing to a new home may still qualify for a concession, and the First Home Owner Grant is separate from duty.

How is commercial property treated in TAS?

Commercial and industrial property pays the same rates as residential property. Duty is calculated on the greater of the price and the property's unencumbered value, which the SRO may base on the Valuer-General's valuation adjusted by a municipal factor.

    Do foreign buyers pay more?

Foreign investors buying residential or primary production property in Tasmania pay a foreign investor duty surcharge on top of transfer duty. Check the current rate with the SRO.
