Are there concessions for homes and first home buyers in WA?
From 7 May 2026, eligible first home buyers pay no duty on a home valued up to $600,000, and pay $16.15 per $100 above $600,000 up to $800,000. For vacant land, there's no duty up to $450,000, then $20.14 per $100 above that up to $550,000. Above those limits, the general rate applies.
A concessional rate also applies to a home, or a WA business asset, where the whole property is worth $200,000 or less.
How is commercial property treated in WA?
Commercial and industrial property pays the general rate. Revenue WA states that the dutiable value includes any GST payable on the transaction, which matters for commercial purchases that aren't sold as a GST-free going concern. Some business assets transferred with land, or on their own, can also be dutiable in WA.
Do foreign buyers pay more?
WA charges a foreign transfer duty surcharge on residential property bought by foreign persons, on top of transfer duty. Check the current rate with Revenue WA.
